Windows 10 – free for ten years
Windows 10 is due to hit our PCs later on this year, with a few new functions and a new browser, as we previously wrote about.
But one of the latest announcements is about updates.
On a fact sheet distributed by Windows, automatic updates for Windows 10 will be free for 10 years, taking us to 2025. However, this isn’t due to customer demand – it is instead a way of ensuring that customers have the latest software at all times, including security fixes and updates.
No longer will users have to fork out for an expensive paid for update which contains large file, instead these updates will be filtered out slowly in smaller sizes over the years.
And those PC users who have a genuine version of Windows 7 or 8.1 will be able to update to Windows 10 for free as early as next week.
We think this is an interesting step from Windows and we will continue to monitor development in the run up to the launch
